I have hair like yours - and I use long thin (less than an inch in diameter) perm rod style rollers. I got mine from Target and they are called Spiral Rollers by Conair. You put in setting lotion, then wind your hair around them when it is wet. You can either blow dry or sleep on them overnight.

DON'T braid it! unless you want to look like a mermaid. wash your hair and while it's still damp, split your hair down the middle. coil one half into a clockwise bun and fasten, then coil the other half counterclockwise and fasten. i ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS do this and always love the results.
